As a Virginia Lifestyle Photographer, I believe that candid photos are authentic photos, but that sometimes people need a little guidance overcoming a huge lens pointed at them. It’s more important to me that YOU feel comfortable in front of the camera, whatever that may entail. I’ve been in business since 2010 but have had a camera of some sort in my hand since I was 13. I feel confident that I can adapt to pretty much any situation you put me in, because, well… life is unpredictable. I interned at several magazines in college and became hooked on this style of photography that’s more documentary and real. It got me in the habit of stopping and watching life as it unfolded around me, which taught me to find ways of telling the story unobtrusively.
You see, I’m here to showcase YOU–what you’re passionate about. Life doesn’t stop moving any faster, and the only way we’ve found to pause it is to capture it through a lens. So you’d better really trust the person looking through the viewfinder!
With a background in photojournalism, marketing and product photography, I’d like to think of my style as a melting pot of “magazine cover meets real life with a hint of OCD-like attention to detail.” Think: me asking you to remove that hair tie around your wrist (I know it’s on there, ladies) or suggesting a subtle pose that’s most flattering for your body type…and then letting it unfold into a natural one that’s truly you.
I also like to get to know you long before you’re standing in front of my camera, so that I’m producing portraits that truly represent your style, not mine. It’s easy to make models look perfect, but the majority of my clients are local business owners, event coordinators, seniors in high school or just two people madly in love, who usually have zero experience in front of a camera. And that’s perfectly fine!!
Communication is extremely important throughout the whole process, so you can be assured that I’m available to answer your calls, emails, or even texts. I so enjoy working with people who can get swept up in a moment and let me make a fool of myself to get genuine smiles—and who aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves in the process. The kinds of people who appreciate the little things in life–because that’s what you’re going to see a lot of in your proofing gallery; those things you might not have even noticed before. That’s what I love capturing! And that’s why I call myself a lifestyle photographer. Most of my shots are candid, in the moment, not posed.
Over the years I’ve been insanely fortunate to develop clients like Distinction Magazine, VA Growler Magazine, The Neptune Festival, McDonald Garden Center, The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Jody G and The Port of Virginia, among many more.
